Addresses and Contacts
A contact essentially represents a person. This contact person can be associated with a Lead, Customer, Supplier, Shareholder, Sales Partner, or a User.
It is important to maintain an updated roster of contacts since it will help prevent miscommunication or confusion if an employee leaves the company, or shifts to another client. It also helps streamline processes of communication about various things, for example product launches, rebranding or any important updates.
Moving on to Addresses. A business can have a need to record multiple categories of addresses such as Billing Addresses, Shipping Addresses or even addresses of Warehouses and Customers. Just like a contact, an address can be associated with a Lead, Customer, Supplier, Shareholder, Sales Partner or a Warehouse.
In ERPNext, a single contact or address can be linked to multiple entities or can alternatively be a standalone record as well. You can also invite a Contact to be a User to your website and allow them to access data that is relevant to them.
Each region/country may have a different format to define their addresses. Address Templates can be customised to contain information on address formats based on different regions.
Let’s see how we can add and customise Contacts and Addresses in ERPNext!
